Summer is here! Where has the time gone? Now is the time to start thinking about your plans to stay ahead of the learning curve throughout the summer. A Smart Summer begins with additional enrichment that you wouldn’t otherwise receive. We offer a lot of different workshops and services for students from 1st grade to 12th grade and even college. Please see below for some of our upcoming workshops. We will be holding a study skills/organization class and a college preparation class later this summer.

Elementary English and Math Jump Start
This program is designed to enrich students with a jump start to the next school year. Using a thematic approach, this program will review and remediate math and language arts skills in small groups. Students will work on reading strategies, comprehension techniques, math computation, and reasoning skills. This program is limited to 12 students, so register soon!
Rising 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade students; 9:00am-12:00pm;8/8, 8/10, 8/15, 8/17; Parrish Learning Zone

Early Elementary Spanish Class
Students will work with a licensed elementary teacher to learn about Spanish language and culture through interactive activities, stories, and games. There will be a maximum of 12 students in each 4 week session.

Fun with Fractions
Is your student among the many who are terrified of fractions? Send them to this fun summer program, taught by a licensed middle school math teacher, where students will review adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions through games and hands-on activities! Maximum of 12 students in this session; register now!

Study Skills Bootcamp
Is your student having trouble studying efficiently, managing their time, reading textbooks, or taking notes? Send them to Study Skills Bootcamp! In this one week boot camp, taught by Nina Parrish a licensed School Counselor and K-12 teacher, students will learn in a small group (maximum of 12 students) how to:
- Set manageable goals
- Manage time and schedule out short and long-range projects and study time
- Organize papers, personal space and binders for maximum productivity
- Determine how they learn best
- Learn strategies that work for them for studying and memorizing material for tests
- Take notes from a textbook, Power Point, or class lecture
Middle School (rising 6th-rising 8th)- 5:30-7:30pm, 8/29-9/2, Parrish Learning Zone
Workshop cost per student: $105

PLZ Get Me Ready for College
Does your student need to start the college application process soon but does not know where to begin? This college workshop, taught by a licensed school counselor, will help high school students to have a better understanding of the college application process. They will:
- Explore possible majors and career path
- Compare colleges to see which schools would work best for them
- Learn more about how to find and apply for scholarships
- Learn about financing a college education including: FAFSA, Parent Plus loans, Expected Family Contribution, Direct Student Loans, and more.
- How to apply to college and fill out the Common Application.

College Application Essay Writing Workshop
Need to write a college essay but not sure where to start? In this small group workshop students will work with a licensed high school English teacher to learn more about the college essay, brainstorm ideas for their essay, write a draft, and receive feedback.

SAT Workshop
In this four hour workshop, students will work in a small group with a licensed math and English teacher to learn strategies for the new SAT test. This workshop will help to familiarize students with the SAT test, supplement SAT tutoring, target areas where additional study is needed, or provide a review before taking the SAT. This workshop is limited to 12 students.
High School Students, July 26th 5:30-7:30pm and July 27th 5:30-7:30pm, Parrish Learning Zone

Small Business Entrepreneurship
Does your student love to think outside of the box and come up with creative ideas? You might have a budding entrepreneur! In this one week program students will visit a variety of local businesses including a real estate brokerage, fashion/retail business, education business, and food service business. They will have the opportunity to tour the business and talk with the owner. They will use the knowledge that they gain to turn their own creative idea into a business plan. This program will be taught by Jay Parrish a licensed Business and Marketing teacher. There is a maximum of 12 students in this program so register early!
High School and College Students- (rising 9th-College)- 12:00-2:00pm, 7/11-7/15, Various locations throughout Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania
